A different kind of writing...

One of my favorite shows back in my twenties was a show some of you might have heard about. In fact, a number of you might have envied the hosts for the jobs they had. That show was "MythBusters", one of my all-time favorites. I went into a post-explosion withdrawal when the show ended. For a while, I left it as dead. All the hosts were dead. All the experiments and curiosities were over. And no one was testing urban legends anymore. Times were dark.

I didn't think about it much and just moved on with life. Then a few years ago I discovered that Adam Savage (one of the hosts) had a Youtube channel. I started following him and enjoying the content- he created a lot of strange and really awesome things. Jamie Hyneman (the other host) was also doing his own thing too, although I have really kept up with him. At the same time, I became aware of an author named Mary Roach who has her own esoteric interests. Her work is great, but it's a different kind of literature. It's more scientific and informative than most of the other writers I recommend here. I have read some of her works, and I intend to read more. So let's move on and get to the point...

A few weeks ago I discovered this little gem, an interview in "The Talking Room" where Mary Roach is interviewed by Adam Savage, what a bonus! Decided to post it here, I hope some of you pick up some of the books or subscribe.

While straggling through the wilderness of Netflix shows the other day I came across " The Three Body Problem ". I know of story, mostly of the Chinese novel   by the same name. It's on my reading list, I just haven't gotten to it yet. My list is pretty big, so I prioritize which ones I will read first. This one was high on my list, and that hasn't changed. I suspect there is more in the book than there was in the show. Normally I don't like to watch the show before I read the book, but in this case, I didn't see any good options- There's not much on Netflix I haven't seen, at least from a critical stand point. This post is for those of you here in the states, not my friends over seas. To the rest of the free world, I feel obligated to apologize for what comes next, because it’s not just going to affect us. I tried AI... Again... It was as suspected.

If you haven't noticed, A.I. is all the rage these days when it comes to content creation. Art, Writing, and Music are all being flooded with A.I. driven works. And very few of them are quality. They are usually ugly things that muddy the art pool or clever mimicries of existing masters. Some people are easy to fool however- you've all seen those posts on Facebook, you know the ones, where something is just off. Then you read the comments and sure enough, it's A.I. generated. Some of the music is quite funny, some of it is a little to close to the real thing.  I have written about this before, and I am still struggling with it. I have always wanted my work to be completely original, after all I cultivated the works and the skill for years and years. It doesn't seem right that Someone can screen-cap my work then stick it into an app, craft a prompt and poof! My works originality is out there for anyone who can barely type.
