It's a healthy reminder that happiness doesn't come from some outside thing, it is not to be purchased and it cannot be owned- only experienced. Lastly, that it is in fact a personal responsibility. There are very few Adam Sandler movies I actually like. For the most part it's the same movie over and over again. It's okay sometimes. But I have to be in the mood to waste a couple of hours watching one of his movies. I guess you might say I have a love hate relationship with him and his work. Most of it, is very "Meh". There's only one Adam Sandler movie I will watch over and over again- outside of " Eight Crazy Nights ", which my family insists is a "Christmas movie". That movie would be, you probably guessed this one, " Happy Gilmore ". And it's really not even a good movie, it's just super nostalgic. There are some other movies he's in that are good, but they don't have a replay value- case in point " Reign Over Me ", " Punch Drunk Love ", and " Uncut Gems " among others. They're good movies, but they just aren't worth watching multiple times, especially Uncut Gems.  So when ...

"The Glow at the end of the World" (Photo Credit J.B. Sommerset 2024) Sometimes people are so reoccupied with doing something that they do not take the time to ask themselves if they should do something. Like playing in "gods toolbox", it's a bad idea. But people just keep doing it, and usually for all the wrong reasons. The quote this week kind of reflects that.  "Did we ever stop to consider that maybe the stars were put so high in the heavens so that man could not reach them..." J.B. Sommerset Cheers!

I was skeptical when I saw the trailer for " The Creator ", it seemed like it had been done a number of times before- from " Terminator " to " A.I. " In other words, I didn't think it could be original or even come across as authentic. I was wrong, and I will give this film more credit than most of the critics did. I think it deserves that, because it's hard to come up with anything that even has original paint. This movie has a crap ton happening, and while it's true that there are so many call outs and themes that appear to be stollen from other movies, I assure you this story is very much an original work. And those call outs are more tributes than anything else. The plot is one that I have addressed here many times and struggle with, especially right now. Artificial intelligence is something I am VERY cautious of. For the most part A.I. has been vilified in movies and stories, it's usually the big-bad-guy in most science fiction films t...

This week's book is a well known story for any science fiction fan. In fact there was a movie made from the book- although it doesn't deserve the association. Not because it's a bad movie, it just doesn't represent the book or the author. I would say it shares the name and not much else because as creative as the movie is, the book is better and has more to it. For those of you who don't know, I am a big Robert A. Heinlein fan, and find the mans work, often, ahead of it's time. I have posted his work from time to time, but for some reason I have never posted the full length audio book of " Starship Troopers ". Not sure why, maybe it's because it's not his best work- it's good, but he has done better. Anyway, here it is- I give you Starship Troopers. Cheers!

"Mist in the Valley" (Photo Credit: JB Sommerset 2024) This one is one from "the way back", it's one I'd like to think was given to me by mother nature herself, but I think it came to me because at the time I lived in Idaho- and that's a weird place to be.  "When looking at our compassion, we should use some common sense- sometimes a person should come to realize, that a rabid raccoon stuck in a trap because of it's own stupidity should be put down rather than set free. Since I have been doing the Godzilla thing recently, I thought I'd take advantage of that free subscription my wife has for Apple TV . There are only a couple of reasons to watch Apple TV in my opinion, but ever since I watched " Godzilla Minus One " (read that review here ), I have been craving some more giant lizards stepping on people, stepping on buildings, stepping on other monsters, etc. So I bit the bullet and decided to watch " Monarch: Legacy of Monsters ". And it was "meh", but the good kind of meh. The kind of meh that you might settle in with on a Saturday night and Netflix and chill with- but NEVER tell any one that you did it, and also, that you kind of, sort of, might have gotten a little enjoyment from it. And it's oh so perfect for 2024- being that we are going into an election year here in the states. I not usually one to take sides on this matter, but this year is super important. If we have another 4 years with the "terrible tangerine" I am pretty sure all is lost and the apocalypse has begun. Well, anyway, here is the quote of the week.
